How to Make a Snowman – Christmas Crafts

Hi friends! Do you want to learn how to make a snowman? It’s super fun and easy! Our snowman will be made of yarn and glue. Let’s get started!

Materials You Will Need:

  • Black and orange construction paper
  • Red fabric for the scarf
  • Googly eyes (or black construction paper if you don’t have them)
  • Tape
  • Two twigs for the arms
  • One pin (be careful with this!)
  • Two balloons
  • White glue
  • Scissors
  • Three dark-colored buttons
  • White yarn
  • Gold ribbon
  • Water and a bowl

Let’s Build Our Snowman!

First, blow up the two balloons. Make one a little smaller for the head and the other a bit bigger for the body. Use tape to stick the balloons together. Wrap some yarn around where the neck would be and cut off any extra yarn.

Next, mix equal parts of water and glue in a bowl. Use a popsicle stick to stir it well. Dip the yarn into the mixture until it’s wet. Now, wrap the yarn around the balloons, covering them completely. Be patient and keep wrapping until it’s all covered. Let it dry overnight, or use a hair dryer if you can’t wait!

Once dry, pop the balloons with a pin and remove the balloon pieces. Now, let’s make the snowman’s hat!

Making the Hat

Draw two circles on the black construction paper: one big for the hat’s base and one small for the top. Cut out a rectangle with lines on the sides. Cut along the lines to make flaps, fold them, and glue them to the circles. Let it dry. Wrap a gold ribbon around the hat for a splash of color!

Creating the Face

For the mouth, use black construction paper and a light-colored pencil to draw a big smile. Cut it out. Use orange paper for the nose and make a curl. Stick them on the snowman’s face. Add googly eyes or make eyes from black paper. Glue everything in place.

Adding the Final Touches

Glue the buttons onto the body: one, two, three! For the scarf, use red fabric or yarn. Wrap it around the neck and add fringes to the ends for a cool look.

For the arms, use twigs. Insert them into the sides of the snowman. If they’re loose, add some glue to hold them in place.

Finally, glue the hat on top of the head. Find the perfect angle, and you’re done! Your snowman is ready and looks amazing!

  2. Weather Watch: Keep an eye on the weather this week. Is it cold enough to make a real snowman outside? If not, what kind of weather would you need? Draw a picture of your perfect snow day and describe what you would do. Discuss with your friends how different weather affects what you can do outside.

  3. Yarn Experiment: Try using different colors of yarn to make a rainbow snowman! What happens when you mix colors? Does it change how your snowman looks? Experiment with different patterns and share your colorful creations with the class. Talk about how using different materials can change the look of your crafts.

Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

[Music] Hi friends! I’m a snowman. Would you like to learn how to build me? I am made of yarn and glue. It’s very easy!

The materials you need to make me are:
– Black and orange construction paper
– Red fabric for the scarf
– Googly eyes (if you don’t have that, you can always use black construction paper)
– Tape
– Two twigs for the arms
– One pin (careful not to poke yourself)
– Two balloons
– White glue
– Scissors
– Three dark-colored buttons
– White yarn
– Gold ribbon
– You’ll also need some water and a bowl.

Let’s go for it! First of all, you’ll need to put your lungs to the test. You need to inflate the two balloons: one a little smaller (that will be for the head) and another a little bigger (that will be for the body).

Now, with tape, we can stick the balloons together like this. One here, another piece of tape here, and last one on this side. Now let’s tie a little yarn around what will be the neck like this. We can cut any extra yarn.

Now, in a bowl, we need to mix the same amount of water and glue with a popsicle stick until we get an equal mixture. When we have it, we will put the yarn in the mixture and let it get wet. Now we cover the balloons like this, alternating the head and the body. We have to mix it many times until the surface of the balloon is completely covered. Be patient!

When you finish, let it dry for the whole night. If you don’t want to wait so long, you can use a hair dryer. Look, it’s already dry! The yarn should be really hard. If it’s still soft, let’s try a little longer.

Now comes the fun part: pop the balloon with a pin. Oh, you got it! Now take out the leftovers of the balloon like that. Very good! Let’s set the body aside and now we’ll start making the hat.

Now we draw two circles on the black construction paper: one big one for the base of the hat and another smaller one for the upper part. Also, we need to make a rectangle with lines on the sides and then we cut them out.

Once we’ve cut out the rectangle, we need to cut this way to make the flaps that we will stick to the circles and then we will fold them. Let’s go for the circles and cut them out. Now let’s glue! We put a little glue here and a few clips and we wait for it to dry. Once it’s dry, we glue the circles. Great! Now we have my hat.

Don’t you think it’s missing something? Let’s give it a touch of color! We need a gold ribbon. Let’s put it around the hat and glue it. Now yes, it’s beautiful!

Let’s see the mouth. We’ll use a strip of black construction paper and a light-colored pencil. Let’s make the outline of the mouth with a really big smile and then we can cut it out. With a piece of orange construction paper, we can do the same for the tongue and then we can stick them on.

The nose is really easy; you just have to make a curl and stick it. Once it’s dry, we can cut it out here to make some eyelashes to stick on the face. This is what my face will look like. We are going to stick it on the head first.

For the eyes, we take off the sticker and stick this one. We do the same with the other one. Very good! Now for the mouth, with a little bit of glue, we stick it and we do the same with the nose. Great! Now we have a face.

We do the same with the buttons: a little bit of glue and we stick them on—one, two, and three. And now for the scarf! I chose red yarn, but you can choose the color that you like best. One of the ends we can make some fringes so it looks cooler.

Very good! Now we bundle up the neck so it doesn’t get cold. Great!

I am missing arms. To make them, we get twigs that you will have to put into some of the holes in the sides. If it’s not sturdy, you can add some glue.

To finish up, we’ll glue on the hat. Put a little glue on the bottom, then we can find the perfect angle. And perfect! Here I am, if I do say so myself. I am beautiful! I turned out so well. Great! Congratulations!
